Wood Species
Sawmill Designs offers four different species of wood for your shelves. The walnut and white oak options are made from freshly milled new wood while the antique oak and barn board options are crafted from reclaimed lumber.
Finishes
Each of the four shelves are available unfinished or with a satin urethane clear coat. Additionally, since it takes stain so beautifully, you can further customize a white oak shelf with any of our fan favorite stains that you see throughout the website.

What is my open shelving made of?
We are proud to say that each of our shelving units are made and finished by hand by one of our master craftsman. We use only the highest quality white oak, walnut, and reclaimed barnboard to construct your one-of-a-kind shelf.
What is the thickness of my shelving?
Our shelves are 1.5” thick.
Does hardware comes with a shelving order?
Since there are a variety of hardware options and each wall is unique with plumbing and electrical, we do not provide hardware with our shelving.
How do I hang my wood shelving?
First, make sure you have proper support on the interior of your walls before attempting to hang.
After you have established wall support, you can drill into the back of the shelf for a floating shelf appearance. Here is an example of a standard floating shelf bracket.
“L” shaped brackets can also be used to hang our floating shelves.
Where can I hang my shelving?
The possibilities are endless! Some of our favorite places to hang shelving are behind a bar, in a kitchen, in a bathroom, or in a home office.
How do I clean my shelving?
If you choose our pre-finished Satin Urethane finish option, cleaning is as simple as a quick wipe down. Our finish is durable and able to withstand spills and everyday use.
How long will it take to make my custom shelf?
Since each of our shelves are custom made, our production time is approximately 4 weeks. Prepare to be amazed!
